What is Hysteroscopy?
Hysteroscopy is the process of examining the uterine cavity with the help of endoscopy inside the uterus. It can be used to treat the cause of abnormal bleeding. It allows the doctor to look inside your uterus to examine the main problem or to know about your reproduction health. It can be either diagnostic or operative.
Diagnostic Hysteroscopy is used to examine or diagnose the problem in the uterus. It also confirms the result of hysterosalpingography (HSG). Operative Hysteroscopy is used to operate or correct the abnormal condition which is diagnosed by diagnostic hysteroscopy.
How is Hysteroscopy done?
Before proceeding to the main procedure, the doctor asks you to be calm and relax and give you anaesthesia. She will gently insert the hysteroscope into the uterus. To expand or clear away any blood or mucus she will insert Co2 gas or a liquid solution through the hysteroscope. This will allow the doctor to see clearly into the uterus and fallopian tube and to diagnose or perform any surgical procedure if needed.
When you need Hysteroscopy?
- Heavy menstrual periods.
- Severe cramping.
- Bleeding after menopause.
- If you have more than one miscarriage.
- Problems getting pregnant.
The cost of hysteroscopy may vary. It depends on the procedure; it is either surgical or diagnostic. The cost may be higher if you have surgical hysteroscopy than diagnostic hysteroscopy. The risk with this treatment is very low and recovery is also quick.
